Driving a car with a cracked windshield can be a nightmare, but it is also something that can easily be fixed. If you are one of the people who think that this is something that is permanent and have no other choice then it is time to think again about your options. There are plenty of people out there that have a broken windshield and drive without a chipped windshield sign. They will tell you that they would rather drive around with a chipped windshield than have to deal with having a broken windshield for the rest of their lives.
One important thing to understand is that even if you have a small chip in your windshield, it can be fixed. The first thing that you need to do is get the chip checked at the dealership that repairs it. Many people may be under the impression that if their chip is not too big then they cannot fix it on their own. The fact of the matter is that most chips are small and can be repaired in a short amount of time.
The next step that you will want to do is talk to the dealer that repairing your chip about whether they will chip in your windshield in order to repair it or if they will replace the chip for you. Some dealers will replace the chip with another one for you. They may want to charge a little bit more to have the chip replaced or they may charge less to have it replaced with another chip. Just make sure that you are comfortable with what they suggest before you choose this option.
After you have talked to the dealer about getting your windshield replaced or having the chip repaired you need to decide whether or not you want to get a windshield tinted windshield. You will want to take the time to look over the price of a new windshield and compare it to how much tinting will cost you. If you find that the tinting is worth it then by all means get a new windshield, but if you are not sure then it may be a better idea to just get your windshield tinted.
If you have insurance companies you can contact for help then you will want to consider asking them about their policy in regards to chips in windshields. It may be possible that they can actually offer you a discount if your windshield is chip free. or offer you a better policy if you use their windshield as opposed to an individual windshield. However, keep in mind that some insurance companies may only cover windshield cracks that are serious enough that the windshield is going to have to be replaced.
So if you are driving around with a chipped windshield it is easy to repair it. If you have insurance, you may be able to have the chip fixed for free. or maybe even save some money if you have insurance companies willing to give you a discount because of it.
