The company serves both professional installation professionals and do-it-yourself auto enthusiasts. As of July 13, 2019, it operated 4,912 retail stores and 150 Worldpac branches in the United States. While primarily a discount auto parts retailer, Advance offers more than just parts and accessories. Its store locations range from local garages to retail car centers.
The company began as a small operation in 1932, but has since grown into a global corporation. In April 2002, it acquired the 57 Trak Auto stores located in Virginia, Washington, and eastern Maryland. In November 2001, the company purchased Discount Auto Parts, Inc., which operated 671 stores in Florida and South Carolina. In the following year, Advance became a publicly traded company and operated 2,484 stores in 38 states.
